Rating Information &
Guidelines
The NTRP is a national tennis rating system which helps ensure
that players play against others of approximately the same level
of play. A player who does not have an NTRP rating must estimate
his or her rating prior to joining a team. Players contacting
the MTA who are looking for a team are asked for their contact
information. Their names are then forwarded to captains of
teams at the player's estimated NTRP level. Captains are
responsible for contacting players.
Captains next give those invited to play on the team the team
number. Registering for a team is done on through TennisLink and
players must have their USTA number, team number and a credit
card in order to sign up. During the team registration
process, players are asked to “self-rate” their NTRP level by
truthfully answering a series of questions. The cost of
joining a team is $20.
Adult leagues are open to men and women who have reached age 18
prior to, or during, the calendar year in which the player plays
his/her first league match.
For 2.5 league,
each match consists of 1 singles level and 2 doubles levels.
For 3.0 leagues and higher, each match
consists of 2 singles and 3 doubles levels. Levels currently
available are 2.5 – 4.5.
Senior leagues are open to men and women ages 50 and over. Each
match consists of 3 doubles levels. Levels currently
available are 3.0 – 4.0 men and women.
Super Senior leagues are open to men and women ages 60 and over.
Each match consists of 3 doubles levels. Levels currently
available are 3.0 - 4.0 men and women.
Mixed doubles teams are combined NTRP levels, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and
9.0. Players in a given match may be different NTRP levels with
their combined level not exceeding the team level, but not more
than 1 level apart. For example, a 4.0 man and a 3.0 woman may
play together, but not a 4.5 man and a 2.5 woman.
Combo leagues- doubles are same gender teams in which players of
two different levels may play together, their levels not
exceeding the team level. Levels currently available are
5.0, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5.
In these leagues, winning teams may advance to the district and
sectional championships, and in the case of Adult and Senior
Leagues, the national championships.
Matches are played at several local tennis facilities including
John Drew Smith (JDS) Tennis Center, Tattnall Tennis Center,
Mercer University, Healy Point Country Club, Idle Hour Country
Club, and Warner Robins Recreation Department. For
